Many of you have noticed that most of the commercial toothpastes contain ingredients to avoid, like ‘natural flavors’, ‘ carageenan’ and ‘glycerin’ and then there’s the fluoride. After finding my daughter one day sneaking some tastes of commercial toothpaste, I decided to search for a homemade recipe for oral health. To my surprise, recipes are quite easy and make more sense for promoting oral health, particularly with microflora in the mouth. Some seem to be complicated unnecessarily so here’s a simple recipe that uses coconut oil. Coconut oil has recently gained press on its use for microflora oral health.
Toothpaste Recipe
6 tbsp coconut oil
6 tbsp baking soda
essential oil to taste (whatever you prefer— I’ve used orange and peppermint (for adults))
1 tsp stevia (or more if you like it sweeter)
Mix all together. You can use a wooden stick or small spoon to remove from jar and place on toothbrush.
Happy oral flora health!
