I had a number of people forward me the New York Times article titled “The extraordinary science of junk food”. To keep the topic alive,  I decided to write about it.  The article is a fascinating look at the science behind the companies making food addictive so that we become loyal customers. The article mentions the companies referring to their mission as wanting to gain more of the “stomach share”.  Check out the article: NYT – extraordinary science of junk food.

I depart with a  quote from the article and a question to you. “As a culture, we’ve become upset by the tobacco companies advertising to children, but we sit idly by while the food companies do the very same thing. And we could make a claim that the toll taken on the public health by a poor diet rivals that taken by tobacco.”

So my question to you; if your favorite food item was labeled “Caution – this food may be addictive and cause obesity”, would you still eat it?
